Gallery Hire

At Great Space, we love everything art. Our staff are artists too, and we know what takes to run an exceptional exhibition.

We welcome applications from solo artists, as well as group curated shows, working across all mediums. Our space features a rotating roster of exhibitions on a fortnightly schedule, with opening nights on Friday’s and the gallery open to the public over two weekends.

We have hire options to suit all budgets, with the option to hire half or the full gallery depending on the scale of your project.

DIY Gallery Hire

Our DIY option is for experienced exhibiting artists who want complete control over their show. Hire includes:

  • Two week staffed gallery hire (8 open days + opening event)

  • Opening event staff and set up

  • Poster/digital poster design

  • Didactic/label printing

  • Exhibition promotion through email and social media

Full Service Hire

Our Full Service option is for artists who want to enjoy their exhibition without the stress of organising it. It includes the services found in the DIY hire, plus:

  • Exhibition curation

  • Install and de-install

  • Professional photographic exhibition documentation

FAQ

  • Gallery hires run on a two week roster, starting on Thursday and finishing on a Wednesday.

  • Install and de-install time is included in the hire period. Install takes place on the first Thursday and de-install on the final Wednesday.

  • Opening events are held on the first Friday evening of the hire, from 6-8pm.

  • We set up the space for you! You will have exclusive use of Great Space facilities. We will tend the bar so you can enjoy the night.

  • Our gallery open days are Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, from 11am-4pm.

  • DIY hires are required to bring their own hanging equipment (such as screws or pins), for Full Service hires hanging equipment is included. Exhibitors get access to a toolkit, which includes basic gear such as a screwdriver, hammer, laser level and tape measure.

  • We am to be accommodating wherever possible.

    Work of a ‘sensitive’ nature needs to be approved by the gallery and may need the inclusion of some extra signage.

    Common install methods such as pins, screws, nails and 3M tape are fine, however Blu Tack is not allowed.

  • Our gallery has a kitchen and toilet, as well as plenty of options to set up seating and tables in the gallery space if needed.

  • On top of the physical artwork, artists will need to provide a list of artworks two weeks prior to their exhibition date. We will provide artwork labels and a price list but any further room sheets or didactics will need to be provided.

  • The gallery can organising catering for an additional fee or provide a bar service.

    You can also organise your our own food and refreshments which we will serve. There is a Dan Murphy’s, Woolworths and many local cafe’s and eateries that offer catering nearby.

  • Our photographic documentation is provided by professional artwork documentary photographers. You will receive photographs of the installed artworks via email after the conclusion of the show. You are free to use these images however you please.

    This service is included in the Full Service package or you can add it on to your DIY package.

  • It’s hard to say. We tend to advertise an open call twice a year to program our gallery calendar. Once these have closed our calendar can be quite full! We do leave some spots open, once you submit an application we can offer you the available dates.

  • Congratulations! We will send you a contract to sign including your exhibition dates. You will also be sent an invoice for 50% of your hire fee to secure the dates. One month prior to your install date you will be sent the remaining invoice (this will include a $300 bond for DIY hire). Two weeks prior to your exhibition you will be required to submit a list of artworks.
